Brazil is reforesting and fighting illegal deforestation in the Amazon — English

The Amazon, the largest biome on the planet, with an area of 4,212,472 km², is in nine countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname. There are about 40,000 species of plants, 300 of mammals and more than 1,300 different kinds of birds.

Integration between Brazil’s security forces and environmental agencies has brought down environmental crime rates. Since August 2021, deforestation alerts in the Amazon have fallen by more than 15% compared to the same period in 2020.

16 million hectares of the Brazilian Amazon were reforested, exceeding the goal of 12 million by 2030. The TerraClass project, which maps the health of the tropical forest by satellite, shows 163,000 square kilometers in recovery in the Amazon, an area equivalent to Tunisia.
