By “New Point-and-Click Afterlife Adventure Game “A Guidebook of Babel” Launches on Kickstarter Today!”

A two-stage demo of A Guidebook of Babel is now also available on Steam for players to experience. As funding goals are met in the campaign, additional beta gameplay will be unlocked for backers. The title will also feature innovative gameplay, including the use of the “butterfly effect”. This mechanic appears at various points throughout the story, and allows players to identify actions in the past in order to unlock different outcomes in the present.
The title was initially self-funded by the two co-founders, Jiayu Zhang (Rick) and Yutian Qi (Gardener), at the end of 2017. However, StarryStarry have since expanded to a five-person team and plan to bring the game to more languages and platforms soon.
Gardener, who leads art direction and design, said: “The concept of afterlife in the game was inspired by a family trip to the aquarium. My wife and I encountered an older couple who approached our daughter at the aquarium gift shop. They said that our daughter reminded them of their child who passed away years ago, and seeing our daughter brought it all back. This led me to think that perhaps there’s a whole world in the afterlife where memories are kept and re-lived…and maybe that’s a fun and wacky world, at least in my opinion!”
